Let me ask you something?

Do you ever feel as though your head is spinning from information overload and you find yourself buying more and more information you do not need?

If your email inbox is anything like mine, you are swamped with emails everyday trying to get you to buy something else.

This is a common problem for beginners in this business. It has happened to everyone at some point and time, however, it is worse now than ever before because information is everywhere. The internet is growing so fast with social media and everything else that it is hard to know what to believe.

So, you keep buying hoping to find that one thing that is going to give you all the answers or provide the missing link.

All that really happens is you are out of more money and four weeks later you still are no closer to making any money. In internet marketing, we call this opportunity seekers. As you may know it is a very profitable market, but you don’t have to be an opportunity seeker anymore.

You see, it is easy to get caught on this treadmill for months and sometimes years. I was on it myself for several months before I was able to get off and start making money online. You need to understand you have more information now than many successful marketers out there. You just need to put it all together and take action.

You may say Billy I know that, but that is my problem… I don’t know where to start! 

Here is my answer.

1. You need to realize this is a REAL business.

If you truly want to be successful online, then you will have to shift your thinking. You need to be smart and make the right decisions for your company. If you are like most marketers who start out online, then it is just YOU trying to be the writer, do YOUR own graphics, market YOUR business, be YOUR own SEO professional, build YOUR own websites, be YOUR own copywriter, learn the newest software, etc.

The fact is you only have so much time in a day and it is important to realize your time is money! Do you want to spend your time writing articles that you could have paid 5 bucks to have done for you? You are a business owner and you must learn to leverage your time if you want to be successful anytime soon.

I don’t want to sound harsh but it was something I had to learn. I know many of you don’t have money to outsource and the only choice you have is do it yourself or don’t do it at all.

I understand that because I was in the same place not long ago.

That is why you need to be even more sensitive to your time online. How much time are spending in forums? Checking your email? Texting your friends? On Facebook? and the list goes on and on. The fact is most of our time online is doing non-productive work being consumed by distractions. This does take work and focused effort if you want to be successful.

Yeah, it can be boring work at times and the distractions can easily grab our attention. That’s why I can’t stress enough to treat this like a business and be consistant with your actions.

2. Step back and DECIDE right now what business model you want to follow.

The problem so many of us have is trying to way too many things at the same time. We jump from one business model to the next and never settle on one thing. As I said earlier, if you are in the place where you cannot afford to outsource, then you have to leverage your time even more so. You cannot do that if you are trying to do a hundred different things at once. You will never be successful trying to build a business that way. 

You can not follow two business models…you need to FOCUS on ONE.

Are you going to do CPA… List Building… build niche websites…PPC… Social Media, etc?

Choose one thing to specialize in and become the expert!

Let’s use football for example:

Do you think your team would win many games if it had only one player?

Let say this guy was the QB, the WR, the center, the RB… he played all positions. That guy would be hauled off the field on a stretcher the first play.

But that is exactly the way we approach internet marketing…

We try to be the copywriter, graphic artist, article writer, website designer, marketer, technical guy, etc. You would have to superhuman to do everything.

It sounds crazy but that is how many of us try to do it, myself included.

You see the speaking events where a marketer comes on stage and tells you media buying is the way to make millions, the next guy tells you it is copywriting, the next says it is list building, the other says it is CPAs, and so on…

By the end of it, your head is spinning so fast you don’t know what to do or where to start. We think we have to know it all and do it all before we can be successful. It is like trying to play all positions on that football team. It is impossible!

The next thing is to decide the niche you want to enter into and focus all your efforts there before moving on. You will be amazed at how much things will begin to turn around for you if get laser focused and take consistent action.

3. Plan each day!

This is very powerful if you apply it. You will be surprised if you plan your time each day. Do you set aside time for forums or do you visit whenever and for hours at a time? I like forums as well as the next guy but they can be real time hogs. You can spend hours there without realizing it.

Make a game plan for each day and try to stick to it. Try to start with the hardest project first.  Decide what needs to get done and do it. If you can’t do it yourself find someone to help you or pay someone to do it. You might be able to exchange your services with someone else and both of you win.

I could spend weeks trying to make my own graghics and they still would be terrible or I could pay $50 and have it done by a professional. It only makes sense to me.

I want to share something with you that really changed the way I looked at making money online.

You see I was one of those who was looking for that ONE course or “secret” that was going to make me millions next month. I could quit my job and lay around on the beach all week while money magically fills my bank account. But the problem was I could never find it. I would get emails in my inbox that I knew had to be the best thing since sliced bread…so I would buy it.

I would get started with it only to find something else that was better and I would buy it.

This continued for the first 4 or 5 months before I heard something that literally changed the way I saw making money online. It was not the courses or secret strategies that was going to make me money. Like many who start out in this business… I have products on my computer right now that I have never read or used.

I wasn’t buying the product, I was buying the dream and they were selling it to me.

Do you want to know how money is really made online?

It is real simple…

You have to sell something…

Before you think…duh!

Let me explain.

It doesn’t matter if it is CPA offers, your products, or someone else’s…. a sell has to take place befor any money is made. Even if you are doing adsense, you are selling your traffic to advertisers.

Now, once you understand this basic principle, you then need to shift your thinking. You are going to need to stop thinking like a buyer and start thinking like seller.

This was one of the biggest tipping points for me to start making money.
